Mileage stops being the main signal
On a car that is several decades old, a mileage figure describes far less than it does on a modern one. A low-mileage car stored badly can need more work than a higher-mileage car maintained continuously.
Condition assessment, corrosion history and the quality of any restoration work carry the weight that mileage carries on a newer car.
Originality is a spectrum
Fully original, sympathetically maintained, restored and modified are four different propositions, and buyers sort themselves by which one they want. Describing where a car sits on that spectrum honestly is more useful than claiming the most flattering label.
- Matching-numbers drivetrain and documented provenance where available.
- Original paint versus a documented respray in the original colour.
- Period-correct modifications versus modern ones.
- Rust repair history, including what was replaced rather than covered.
Why we treat classics separately
BimmerWorth is being built so that older chassis are assessed on the inputs that actually differentiate them, rather than being pushed through the same year-and-mileage logic used for a late-model car. Confidence scoring is expected to be lower on classics, and the interface is designed to say so rather than hide it.
