The same car, two different buyer pools
A manual and an automatic version of the same model year are usually priced identically by tools that only consider year, mileage and trim. In practice they attract different buyers, and the size of each pool varies considerably by model.
For ordinary commuter specifications, an automatic is often the easier car to sell. For enthusiast-oriented models, a manual is frequently the configuration buyers search for first.
It depends on the model, not on a rule
There is no single manual premium that applies across the BMW range. The effect is tied to whether the specific model is bought primarily as transport or primarily as an enthusiast car, and to how many manual examples were built in the first place.
- Availability: some generations offered a manual only on particular engines or trims.
- Automated manuals and dual-clutch gearboxes are a third category, not simply automatics.
- Condition of the clutch and any documented replacement is a routine buyer question.
What we will show
The completed platform is designed to state transmission as an explicit, visible factor in the valuation breakdown, with the direction and reasoning shown, rather than folding it silently into a single estimate.
